Day 30 - Wed 08May2024 - At Sea to Vancouver, BC - Day 6

 Today is our last sea day before reaching Vancouver.  The Captain announced that we would be entering the Strait of Juan de Fuca around 2pm today and that we should be able to see marine mammal activity.  Our day started with the Bible study in the Princess Live theater.  Ron, the leader for most of the studies, was presented a Captain's hat as a token of gratitude for his service.

Afterwards I watched a Culinary demonstration in the Princess theater which included a large processional of waiters and culinary personnel.  After lunch we watched a comedian, Mike Sealey, who's the Welsh one liner..  He's  good.  Around 2:40pm I was in our cabin and happened to spot a whale swimming by and was able to photograph it.  





Afterwards I watched a navigation presentation by Giovanni, the ship's second officer.  It was pretty interesting.


The evening entertainment was a variety show featuring Ashlie Amber, David Klinkenberg, and Yaniv Zarif.  They were all good.  We then did the late night Karaoke in which One Second Dan sang a couple of his parodies.  He gets off of the ship tomorrow and will be missed.


Tomorrow is Vancouver and we plan to visit Stanley Park as our core activity.

 Today I made the transition to long pants to accompany the sweatshirt I'm generally wearing during the day around the ship.  It's 5-6 degrees colder this morning with an outside temperature of 56ºf at wake-up time.  We attended our normal Bible study session this morning and it was the first of two days of sharing as many of the people are getting off in Vancouver in a few days.  3 men shared.  One was a former federal agent severely burned in a helicopter training accident; the second shared about becoming a Christian on his way back from a second tour in Vietnam, and the 3rd fellow shared about his volunteer work in disaster relief around the world.  Ron will continue with a Revelation study for the following 3 days starting on Wednesday. Our first enrichment lecture this morning was all about bears and Mark Harris had a really concise presentation about the 3 types of bears: black, grizzly, & polar. Day 32 - Fri 10May2024 - Victoria, BC

 With the need to pass under the Lions Gate bridge, our departure from Vancouver was started around 2am. I wasn't awake, but other travelers stayed up and photographed the passing under the bridge.  We weren't scheduled to dock in Victoria until 11am and I still don't know why we couldn't sail faster to Victoria.  In any event, after a very quick breakfast we attended the interdenominational Bible study which was shown in the printed program to start at 9am and be held up on deck 14.  However, Ron decreed that it would be at our customary time of 8:30am in the Princess Live theater.  He gave some introductory remarks about the book of Revelation and then there was a slight train wreck when we got off the scripture passage and into other contentious topics.   Just before 11am the crew backed the Majestic Princess into its berth at the Victoria Cruise ship terminal.  It took a while for the gangway to get set up, but around 11am we were able to exit the ...

Day 21 - Mon 29Apr2024 - At Sea to Honolulu, HI - Day 3

 Overnight we crossed the equator and this afternoon there is scheduled a "ceremony" where 10 guests who have never crossed the equator and otherwise known as "pollywogs" will become "shellbacks".  This morning at 8:30 I led the Bible study in Princess LIve.  It went well and I led discussion around verses that include the two words "In Christ".  Sue Beard gave her enrichment talk about Honolulu.  After lunch retired Ambassador Lewis Lucke presented his enrichment lecture on the funeral of King Hussein.  It was really interesting.   The crossing the equator ceremony was held in the main pool/fountain area on deck 16.  It followed much the same process as what we've experienced on Holland America except that there were no senior officers present to act as a jury, guests were the pollywogs, and none of them took a swim after being slathered with meringue.  And for the first time in many crossings, the ceremony was performed in a downpour. ...
