Day 14 - Mon 22Apr2024 - At Sea to Papeete - Day 4
It was a nice long sleep last night, but the alarm still went off at 7:15am so we could make the 8:30am Bible Study which was showing on the APP tk be in the Vista Lounge. Upon arriving at the Vista Lounge there was no leader and finally someone showed up and said that we were in the Princess Live theater. So we walked down the hall and Ron was there and he indicated that we would be here from now on at 8:30am to 9:15am despite the APP showing if elsewhere and at varying times. Ron then lectured on subjects what apart from the text which we found frustrating. Near the end of the time, Martin came down and said there were 10 more up on Deck 14 which was set up for the study. He retrieved the 10 and they came down.
I attended Sue Beard's presentation on Moorea which was quite good. She was followed by a shore excursions presentation which was just okay. Many of the excursions are full and we yesterday received the last of our tickets for a waitlisted Papeete snorkeling trip. Starting with Papeete, we have 4 snorkeling excursions with two in Papeete, one in Moorea, and one in Hawaii. All of the Tahiti snorkeling trips came after joining a waitlist. Patience is a virtue.
We ran into Gary & Jo Ann so we had a leisurely lunch with them in the Marketplace. I watched the Deal or No Deal Game show (no big winner) and Franz' presentation on Psychedelic drugs. It was another boring delivery. Afterwards I revived myself with an ice cream cone sitting on the aft deck watching the wake. I also figured out how to break out of the time warp on our phones. The solution was simple: set the time zone for Honolulu and roll back the time by 1 hour. Later tonight, I'll need to roll the time forward by one hour to synch up with Papeete's time zone.
Tonight was another formal night, but we elected to return to the LIDO Marketplace where they had the grilled dinner option which we utilized. For the grill, it's best to get your order in early in order to reduce the waiting line. Our orders were #3 & 4. The dinner was wonderful and we chose to get to the Princess Theater by 6:45 and we able to get front row seats for Sarah Peavy Richards Broadway show tunes set which was excellent and performed to a full house. At 5'10" and gorgeous with a powerful voice, she really commands the stage. Google her name if you want more information. We also attended the 9:30pm set which was about 75% full. What's been interesting for this cruise is that the audience rarely will give a standing ovation for good performances. In the second set about 20 people stood to give her the recognition that she deserved. Even Olivia, our cruise director, is surprised by this behavior. In between Sarah's sets, we attended the generation gap game show which was quite fun.
We finished up our evening at the late night karaoke session in Princess Live. Angela sang a couple of songs and there was active participation in this event. We've found it to be quite popular on Princess cruises and don't understand why Holland America dropped it. Tonight we also had another advance the clock by one hour time change which put us on Tahiti's and Hawaii's time zone so we shouldn't have another time change for about a week until we leave Hawaii. After Hawaii, we'll have 3 more time changes to synch up with Seattle/Vancouver time.
Tomorrow is our last sea day (5th in a row) until our 3 days in Tahiti. Then there will be 5 more sea days until we reach Hawaii.
